“Video Portraits”, a unique project lead by Robert Wilson since 2004, emerge from a complex assembly of various artistic media which is about to transform completely our habitual perception of a piece of art. This short video by the young Czech cineaste Jakub Jahn summons the very formal means of the American genius, to obtain a polyphonic portrayal of this work. Visual references and commentaries mutually inform each other to achieve a choral panorama of the thirty-year genetics of the project, tracking its formal evolution and presenting its enormous complexity. A tribute and an ideal sounding board to the immense opus of Bob Wilson.

“For the last twenty years neither matter nor space nor time has been what it was from time immemorial. We must expect great innovations to transform the entire technique of the arts, thereby affecting artistic invention itself and perhaps even bringing about an amazing change in our very notion of art.”

Paul Valéry, Pièces sur L’Art, 1931
